Livonia, officially the State of Livonia, is a major power in Europe and one of the main antagonists besides the Ukrainian Empire and the Iranian Republic, within Korean Mapping's Alternate Future of Europe. It was the leader of the Tallinn Covenant, up until the betrayal against Livonia in 2106.
History[]
1991-2022: Background[]
Latvia declared independence from the Soviet Union, on August 3rd, 1991. It was able to secure freedom after the Soviet Union was disbanded later that year. In 2004, Latvia joined NATO and the EU. This helped seal protection by the US and Western Europe. In 2011, the National Alliance, a far-right national conservative party, was given Party status.
In the 2022 Elections, the National Alliance won the elections, thus securing power over Latvia. Latvia's neighbours, Lithuania, Estonia, and Kaliningrad formed the Baltic Coalition to combat the rise of Latvia.
2022-2043: Silent Growth and Expansion[]
After the 2022 elections, Latvia silently grew in power until the Eastern European Crisis happened in 2040. Latvia joined the war on the side of Poland, soon after the Baltic Coalition declared war on Poland for unnecessary aggression. In the Poznan Conference, Latvia annexed the territories of Estonia, Kaliningrad, and Lithuania bar Vilnius, and renaming the nation to Livonia.
2049-2080: Tallinn Covenant and Ascendance[]
In the aftermath of the Eastern European Crisis, Livonia had become a rather major power in Eastern Europe. During 2049, it had created the alliance known as the Tallinn Covenant, with the founding members being the Dutch Empire, the Roman State, and Greater Bulgaria. In 2053, Livonia supported the Finnish National Front, which had previously failed to assume control over Finland. The National Front won, and Aland gained independence. A few years later, in 2058, Livonia supported the Polaris Movement, but the revolt failed. After this, Livonia suggested that Ukraine could join the Covenant, but this was rejected by Bulgaria, who still had a vendetta against Ukraine for leaving them to lose in the Eastern European Crisis. There was a relative silence after the meeting on inviting Ukraine for Livonia. In 2059, Ukraine shows Livonia the Uranium. Livonia goes on to show the members of the Tallinn Covenant, and arm them with Uranium weapons. In 2068, it convinced Germany to reform and work with the Covenant. Four years after the induction of Germany, the Tallinn Covenant was embroiled in the Great Chinese Restoration.
The Great Chinese Restoration failed to have any significance within Livonia and Finland with revolts failing by 2074, and in 2075 the revolts were snuffed out in Germany, Bulgaria, and the Netherlands. In Italy, the Italian People's Union, formed by Piedmont and Naples, fell to Rome in 2076, and Rome reformed itself into the Italian State.
Straight after the end of the Great Chinese Restoration, the War of Ukrainian Aggression began, between Ukraine and the Intermarium Legion, The Tallinn Covenant declared war on the Intermarium as a third party. Russia joined the war, after realizing that not trying to end Ukraine was a mistake. After conquests into territories of the Intermarium nations Poland and Romania, the Covenant left the war. Livonia ended up annexing the pre-2040 Lithuanian territories as well as the remaining parts of East Prussia, and annexing the Pskov Oblast from Russia.
2081-2100: Major Power Status[]
After the Ukrainian War of Aggression, Livonia had secured the status of a major power within Europe. In 2082, Livonia suggests to the Covenant that they should start their own nuclear program, which the alliance obliges to do. After Germany invaded Austria, and got pushed back, Livonia threatened Germany with forcing them out of the Covenant if they failed to annex Austria. This caused Germany to push harder and eventually win the war. The Dutch Empire declared war on Wallonia, and was able to expand by even taking the Pas De Calais from France. The Covenant supported a rebellion in Spain, but when the rebellion was beginning to fail, the new plan was to take over Portugal instead. The Covenant was also able to secure the services of Belarus, who wanted revenge on Poland for the Eastern European Crisis. Italy also expanded, taking Calabria and Venice whilst the Barcelona Organization was distracted with supporting Basque independence. Finland and Livonia invaded Norway and Sweden, with Livonia gaining Gotland. The strength of the Covenant was now at it's maximum. After this, Germany declared war on Czechia for sending France the Uranium, thus causing World War Three. The Covenant intervened on Germany's side, and the London-Paris Accord on the Czech side, as Czechia had joined the Accord previously.
2100-2106: World War Three and Demise[]
At the start of World War Three, it initially goes well. The Covenant is able to advance into Accord territories. However, the Dutch Empire falls, being left to die by the Covenant from Livonia's ruling. After the Accord is able to get Ukraine to side with them, the Covenant is pushed back. After Germany decides to switch sides, Ukraine sides with the Covenant. It is then revealed that Livonia and Ukraine were working with each other for the past 88 years. However, soon after this, the Tallinn Covenant, as well as Ukraine, turns on Livonia. Ukraine states that Livonia was going to use him to project Livonia's own power, saying after Livonia asks him about their plan, "You mean, your plan. As you said, I was always just a tool in your quest for power. We were never meant to be equals." Italy, a member of the Covenant, answered why he betrayed Livonia with: We're all expendable to you, aren't we?". In a final act of desperation, Livonia tries to reach out to Germany and Bulgaria, but Germany responds by saying that: "No, you didn't. You turned me into someone I'm not. It was never France who wanted to keep me the same. It was you", and Bulgaria straight up rejects Livonia's plea for help, thus leaving Livonia to die. He realizes on his deathbed, his mistakes in trying to accomplish his ambitions, and dies without any characters in the story around him.
Personality[]
Livonia's personality is that of a manipulator. He does not care about those he brings to his cause, for he will try to use them just so he can consolidate his own power. This effectively makes Livonia a villain as he tries to make sure that his allies do not find out about his true intentions.
